I think that for the proformance gains it has a reasonable price, example:
Aquamark benchmark score/current price,
Halo score/price

(a larger number represents a better value)
Older Cards
ATI 9800se
29000/160=181.3
28/160=0.175
ATI 9800xt
46500/400=116.25
60/400=0.150
Geforce 5900xt
36500/190=192
50/190=0.263
Geforce 5950ultra
44900/400=112
59/400=0.148
Geforce 5700
unavalible
30/130=231
ATI 9600xt
32000/160=200
34/160=0.213

Next Generation Cards
Geforce 6800ultra
64000/500=128
96/500=0.192
ATI X800XT
58000/500=116
90/500=0.181
ATI X800 Pro
51000/400= 127.5
81/400=0.203
While the newer generation card don't have the best values, they still do very well. Remember the Geforce FX 5800 ultra was $700 when it came out. I think the only thing worth waiting for at this point would be the Geforce 6800(non-ultra) for $300.

X800pro=$400
