Does anyone have any tips or tricks to increase FPS?

I just bought a GeForce 6800 GT OC and the performance isnt what i had hoped for.

My system specs:

Pentium IV 2.8 800mhz FSB 1 meg cache

1 Gig pc 3200 ram

Windows Xp Home

GeForce 6800 GT OC

I've been playing all games in 1200 x 768 resolution, with most settings turned on, except anti-alaising.

In older games like UT2004 i get around 30 FPS.

In Pain Killer i get about 30.

World of Warcraft gives me about 25.

Doom 3 around 20.

Ive been looking at a bunch of benchmark tests, where systems very similiar to mine were used.

Now i know bench mark tests do have somewhat of a bullshit factor, but still their tests show extremely higher FPS then what i'm getting.

Anyone have any ideas as to what i could do to improve this?
