right now i have one monitor and its 17" no very big

i want to buy another 17" maybe even find the same monitor dont ask what it is all i know its a samatron piece of junk but hasnt let me down yet, anyway i have a 6800 and i have the connecter thing, but do i need a driver to have dual monitors cause i tried it once before with my step dads monitor and only on 17 samatron worked the other one didnt, reason why i want dual or a bigger monitor is cause i do alot of stuff in photoshop and maya
and well need more room and bigger res cause 1280x1024 isnt cutting it anymore

well any help would be nice thanks
