Poor Windows 2D Performance? ( 6800GT )

Hi,

I've recently bought a new pc with a Gainward 6800GT Golden Sample, and it came with the 61.77 drivers installed (which I haven't touched).

Seems fine in games, but in general Windows usage in 1600x1200 @ 85hz the 2D performance seems pretty slow. An example:

This maximized 'post new thread' window (in which I am currently typing) has a 'Notification Type' scroll box at the bottom. If I minimize this window, and then restore it, my eyes notice a general wiping refresh effect from top to bottom, when it gets to the bottom of the screen the scroll box is solid blue, and then it changes to read 'Instant email notification.'

This all happens in a fraction of a second (I'd guess 1/8th), but when I'm using it all day for graphic design work it's most annoying.

I'm sure this isn't due to my monitor's refreshing because this didn't happen with my old computer which used a much older ATI Radeon, and the scroll box not appearing until after the screen has redrawn means it must be to do with what is being sent TO the monitor.

Have tried the different timing modes in the GeForce tab in Display Properties (Auto-Detect, GTF, DMT, CVT and Fixed Aspect Ratio), but they all seem the same.

My AGP settings in the BIOS are 8x and 256mb.

So, what do you think the issue is, and what can I do about it?

I don't know much about nVidia cards, but is updating the BIOS an option? Could the 61.77 drivers have anything to do with it? Or could this be related to system memory?

Many thanks.
