in the address bar type about:config
do a filter for 'tab' and there are several options there. most notably showsinglewindowmodeprefs will put more tab stuff in the options menu. It is possible to almost completely mimik opera (that's how i have it setup). There used to be an extension called singlewindow or something to that effect that also did this...however i haven't seen it for v1.0 yet.
