As Tommy Lee Jones so eloquently put it, "A person is smart. People are dumb as hell." You could use your line of thinking to justify corporations doing anything they wanted.
"Who cares if the car is a death trap? If it's that bad, people should know not to buy it."
"So what if that airline keeps killing people because of shoddy maintenance? People should know better than to fly them."
Lawsuits such as these keep corporations in line. Without them, you'd have to research everything you ate, drove, wore, lived in, flew in, or played with. I'm just glad to see the money going to a good use rather than making some schlep a millionaire.
