you could but it is not meant for that and its alot easier in home/pro...every time you boot your compupter it opens the media browser automatically and you have to close out of there to do you other stuff...imo its just easier to use windows media player or something to play your videos instead since you don't have to use a remote
but you can record stuff with home/pro and the software that came with your tuner (or another 3rd partys) very easily
