At this point in the game, I`m just set on leaving this command. I`m gone next month, and after all is said and done it`s for the better.
On the leave issue, it`s not the first time that I`ve had it taken from me, nor probably the last. Everywhere I seem to go, we`re always short manned and never seem to have enough people to do what we have to do. I just mentioned it in this scenario to demonstrate that they have absolutely no basis to judge me horribly. In this current command all of the "Golden Step Children" have been offered leave, regardless of circumstances. I`ve wittnessed even one of the "perfects" to take a month of leave, only to have it charged as TAD (Temporary Assigned Duty) where they didn`t get charged any leave days at all, and before the end of the year, approved to take another month of leave. All the time, while I lost 18 days for not being allowed to take it alltogether. I understand the fact of operational commitment, and don`t even try to take leave when I the command might be involved in something where they would need my help, but in all counts we were experiencing "down time."
I`m not saying that the EVAL system is a bad thing. It`s a good idea when it`s implemented properly. In a good system, I could see what my strengths were and find out what areas I need to improve on, etc. But when it`s abused, EVERYONE involved suffers. The boss people are only hurting people like me, since it`s ruining my career in the long run. It also only hurts the "Golden" people, since it`s inevitably setting them up for failure. I can guarantee, outside of this "comfort shield," that they won`t be able to hack it in the real world. Plus, if that`s the kind of people that the Navy wants to promote, then we`re all just waiting for something to explode in our face.
But no. I`m not going to raise a stink about it. I just want to leave and go to another place. Next month can`t come soon enough. My joke will come in to me in time, and I can honestly say that NOBODY is going to lift a finger to help the command once I`m gone.
