Same laptop that had the Downloader-GS virus that you guys helped me take care of.
My friend told me that lately he hasn't been able to access the internet. This seems to have coincided with some spyware addition and/or removal along with some virus alerts. I have since cleaned up all the spyware and viruses.
I'm plugging my broadband cable into the laptop and, as friend stated, I'm not able to connect to internet. I get a pop-up saying that broadband connection is working but any attempts to actually access internet is not working. My IP address is set at 169.254.XXX.XXX and I've tried several times to refresh it using ipconfig command (WinXP) but I'm getting a 'Unable to contact your DHCP server' command. I also notice that the 'Default Gateway' is blank and there's also nothing listed for 'Connection Specific DNS suffix' (don't know if that matters). I also tried the WinsockXP Fix utility but still nothing.
Just to let you know, the cable modem is working fine. It's plugged into my desktop and it works just fine but in the laptop.......nothing.
I'm probably going to end up calling the ISP and see what they can do but where it has nothing to do with the modem or their service they may tell me to figure it out myself.
As always, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Adam
