Hello,
I have a USB to IDE external hard drive case which holds a IDE hdd and plugs into a pc via a usb cable. It works fine with WInxp and shows it as removable device H or whatever the drive letter may be but with WIn98 I seem to have all sorts of problems. WIN98 detects it and asks for drivers. I have a disc that came with the device that has various drivers on it but I have tried them all and I cannot manage to see this device as an extra drive. In the taskbar I have the USB icon with the green arrow that I can right click and "Stop the device" but thats it.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
I am unable to see the device in the device manager as I cannot open the system properties icon in the CP. I get an error message about rundll32.dll is missing or something like that. Which is the reason why I want to get the usb drive working so I can back up some data and re-install Windows. Should I perhaps just do a re-install over the top anyway first? I have never managed to lose data in the past by doing this.
