sounds like your hard drive died. I asked what the clicking sound was one day in class, and the teacher said "that's the sound of the arm going back and forth looking for the partition information/ file table information. If it can't find the information because of a read error or other problem it scans the whole drive back and forth real fast banging into the stop on the way back each time. "
