User settings and application data lost

I have quite a problem on my hands and i dont know how it occured. When i booted up my system today and logged on my username, all my saved settings were gone. Everything from wallpaper to icon setup to start menu configuration was all set back to default. Also, all my email accounts were lost from thunderbird, my quicken account was lost, and all applications behave like they are being run for the first time (asking for setup information, firefox starting at the mozilla homepage, etc). I have no idea what happened but it sounds like pretty much everything in the registry regaurding my username got removed somehow. My first thought was a virus but AVG doesnt detect any. Unfortunately, i cant find the disk that I backed up my registry on. Is there any other way i can possibly recover from this? I can revert to a resotre point I made when the system was first set up, but that does me no good because my settings were really in effect then. A reinstall also does me no good for the same reason.
