Accidentally deleted something vital

When it comes to computers, my screen name says it all. I was deleted files from a computer I brought home from work. I thought I was just deleting Word and PowerPoint documents to clean up some space, but evidently I deleted something vital. When I turn the computer on, it says the following.
Main Processor: AMD-K6(tm)1233
Procesor Clock: 233MHz
VGA Memory: 1MB
Checking NVRAM..

32768KB OK TrendChipAwayVirus(R) On Guard
Wait...

Pri Master: 14.10R11 WDC AC24300L
Ultra DMA Mode - 2 S.M.A.R.T. Capable and Status OK.

The cursor is blinking, but I am unable to type anything. If I turn the computer off and back on, it comes back to the same screen. Any suggestions will be helpful. I have two young boys wanting to play computer games but their mom messed things up.
