Sounds like you need either a bios update or the motherboard just doesn't support 100Mhz fsb.

And it can't be that it's having trouble with that extra cache, cause the P2 is actually the same layout as the P3, only difference is speed and fsb. And a few added instructions, nothing major.
I'd look up the model number of that puter and search for a bios update.
