power probem dell 2650

Hi,

I have a dell inspiron 2650 that is a couple years old. Its had power problems for a while. My husband has resoldered the power inside on the motherboard twice. It seems that just using the computer "pulls" the inside power mechanism just enough that it won't make a good connection. I am wondering if anyone has found a good answer to this problem. I've heard its not an uncommon problem. It was such a great computer, but not very helpful if you can't even charge the battery or power up. Is there such a thing as something that could power the battery outside of the computer, or are we just resigned to replacing the motherboard, and if so what prevents this from happening again?

thanks for any insights.
