There was a very good thread on this a while back, but I can't find it now....I wish I could remember the title.
One good one that'll put a big load on your CPU, and is said to be very good at testing overall stability is Prime 95. It's actually a distributed computing client, but has the option of being run as a "torture test". You can find it here: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm
Another good one to try would be 3Dmark2001. As the name states, it's more of of a video benchmarking tool, but I think you could run it in a loop for a good burn in. It's available here: http://www.madonion.com/products/3dmark2001/
I don't know if either would run off of a CD, but I've installed and uninstalled both with no problems at all. There are others, but those are the first two that come to mind.
Best of luck! |
