What exactly are you trying to do? Is it just a .gif image, or an animated .gif?
I had issues with artifacts showing up after making the background of an existing animated .gif transparent.
The fix for me was to select every frame of animation and right click, then choose "automatic" which got rid of the artifacts. This was in Image Ready however, not Animation Shop ( which I also have ).
