No experience with the Belkin one. But if you login wireless via the IP and you reset the password, you will get disconnected immediately. This until you change the passphrase on the laptop offcourse.
Login wired is saver if you want to change your settings.

Or do you mean the Belkin GUI is asking you for the old password first before you are allowed to change the password?

Owh remember that a reset will reset everything to factory defaults!
This means you have to review all settings of the router.
