johnnyis42, Well, the operating satisfactory on battery was apparently just a fluke... now the screen is going off whether it is on AC adapter or battery. I suspect it is the circuit that regulates the amount of time that the screen stays on during idle periods. I don't know of any adjustments that I can get to for that, but will keep looking into it.
