Hi

It was the video card. I used a friend's from her old machine, and then everything was working great - for a few hours. Then the next day the monitor stopped working completely. When I removed the new/used video card and plugged in my old monitor, it worked fine. I guess I have to shell out some cash for a new video card after all.
