| I cannot confirm or refute this statement, but I must admit I am surprised by it. Remember that your Dell copy of Windows XP will not install unless you use a Dell motherboard. The best place, in my experience, to look for info on Dells is the Dell forums.
Don't forget that if you upgrade your motherboard and CPU , you likely will need an upgrade of the cooling for that CPU. Dell has gone to heatpipes and more substantial fans as the speed of their Intel CPU's have gone up. (The latest models have a newer design with multiple fans and more).

This is NOT a suggested approach for your 2400. I've just included it so you could see pics to aid in understanding.
