I had the same issue trying to run 1680x1050 on my Samsung 205bw with a Sis650gx. I didn't want to buy a new card if possible. After extensive research I realized the Sis650 wasn't up to the task no matter what. I ended up buying a Evga geForce6600LE. This card runs the monitor no problem and it looks fantastic.
