Parallel Port Problem...Compaq Presario 2100 (2182US)

A friend asked that I take a look at her laptop and her laundry list of issues with it. One of the items on the list was the parallel port. She says with the cable connected the connection seems wobbly and the print job would never print.

So I hooked it up to an old inkjet I have laying around and it doesn't seem to print. With the cable connected there seems to be a fair bit of vertical play. In the BIOS the default mode for the port is set as ECP. I have Bi-directional, EPP and ECP to choose.

According to Windows Device Manager everything is fine. The port is listed as ECP Printer Port (LPT1) Under the Resources tab I have I/O Range 0378-037F, I/O Range 0778 - 077F, DMA 00.

I had the laptop completely torn down to the motherboard to replace the power connection. When I had the motherboard out I inspected the parallel port connection and I didn't see any visable signs of damage.

Any ideas / suggestions? Driver issue? Could the port be bad? Any way to test it?
