Andy | That is how it occurs when a person is confronted with the facts for which they have no legitimate response,they switch to attacking the person. They attempt to divert the attention away from the facts of the arguement to make this a personal attack.When loosing the arguement chage your strategy to a personal attack to attempt to win.
