It depnds on your motherboard. Windows should recognize it as a drive, but your motherboard has to support booting from USB.
Also, it will be super slow by doing that...just a warning.
USB = 60MB/s max
SATA = 150MB-300MB/s max with much lower CPU usage and latency.
