only real option

You have to updatae your BIOS to the correct version for your laptop - you must go to the HP website - (obviously from another PC), and download the updated BIOS for that model - read the instructions very carefully on how to install it (put it on a boot disk, boot to it, and run the updater) and update the BIOS with the correct file HP has for your model specifically - once you have, you can go into the BIOS and tweak your settings if you want or leave them default and you are on your way...if you think you have a virus it would be best to go into your OS in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING and run housecall from trend micro's website.
