The only problem with that method, is if you lose the highlight accidentally

It works great sometimes, very frustrating other times

One thing that is frustrating is if you want to cut and paste a URL.
You highlight the desired URL from xyz app. however, then by habit I highlight the browser URL and then hit delete... well by then the previous highlighted text is gone so you have to hope you left the initial application open to get the text again.
