Windows Vista update error 80244019

I've been running Vista ultimate for about 2 months now with automatic update enabled. All recommended and important updates have installed without problems, except one which has failed 5 times now:
===============
Hewlett-Packard - Other Hardware - HP Photosmart D7100 Series (DOT4USB)

Installation date: ‎24/‎05/‎2007 10:37

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80244019

Update type: Recommended

Hewlett-Packard Other Hardware sofware update released in January, 2007

====================

Neither of the links seems to lead to useful data, although the first one might indicate a problem with HP's driver update rather than at my end.

The only references to Code 80244019 I can find talk about Group Policy and other esoteric stuff. I'm pretty sure I'm not using this as it's a stand alone PC. Unless it's a default of the installation. Why is this one failing and all the others "take"?

A secondary problem is that whenever I try to follow the help links I get an error box

"Internet Explorer cannot download / from Windows

Internet Explorere was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either
unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

In this case it is trying to follow a link to:

mshelp://Windows/?id=26d54faf-bee6-4d4a-b5e7-2f08b53c2c4c

and neither Firefox nor IE7 know about the "mshelp" protocol

I'm not too worried about either of these problems, but they are annoying and it would be nice to have the latest drivers for my printer.
