Problems with 7900gt

i didn't think i would have to worry about this but it is really starting to bug me. i play a lot of cs: source across lan with my girlfriend, and noticed something unusual about the overall performance on my machine vs. hers.

my specs are as follows:

stock e6300 (1.86ghz)
gigabyte 965p-ds3 (rev 2.0)
kingston 2gig kit 667
250gig seagate sata hdd
gigabyte 7900gt (256mb)

and hers is as follows:

am2 3000+ @ stock
gigabyte m55sli-s4
1gig generic 667 (2 x 512)
80gig seagate sata hdd
msi 7600gt (256mb)

our in game video settings (AA, AF, HDR etc) are all set to the same thing, the only difference being that i am using a 20" benq ws and hers is a benq regular 17". i notice that the response of the game is not very smooth...my video card appears to be struggling with rendering the video smoothly. the bots appear to "skip" across the screen, and they just appear very glitchy. the same version of the game is installed on my gf's computer, and it appears to be running extremely smoothly, even when using the same settings as my computer.

the only other difference as far as i can see is that my computer is able to display colours much more beautifully that the second computer, whose colours are very inaccurate (it's not as powerful a video card) but this doesn't seem to be worrying me as much as the "smooth" factor.

i may run some tests sometime tomorrow at work, run some benchmarks too, just too see what i can come up with. is there anything equivalent to memtest that can be used to test a video card for errors? any feedback or thoughts would be great.

thanks in advance.

p.s i tried turning the AA off and the AF down to "bilinear" filtering, and i got the microsoft visual c++ runtime error straight after, and the game crashed. i think i might be onto something here...
