The following is a good way to clean your system more thoroughly and speed it up to boot...

Start by turning off System Restore...
To turn off system Restore, simply right click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop, and choose "properties"
Click the "system restore" tab and check the box that says turn off system restore"
Click "Apply" and then OK, You can always turn it back on later when your sure the system is clean, by reversing the procedure
The reason you should turn it off, is because many of the nastier Trojans and spyware insinuate themselves into the system restore points and reinsert themselves after you've gotten rid of them
Run C-Cleaner
If you don't already have them...
Use Spybot, Adaware, and AVG AntiSpyware as well
Update all the Spyware removers...
Then reboot in safe mode and run the scans from there...
To get into safe mode, reboot and start tapping "F8" until a black screen showing several boot-up options including "safe-mode", arrow up to safe mode and click "enter" once its highlighted...
Once in safe mode, run C-Cleaner again and don't forget to scan for issues to clean the registry...
After you gotten rid of the majority of Spyware, run HijackThis and use THIS link to scan your findings and remove anything it finds suspicious..
I suggest re-tweaking all the settings by using XPSmoker and TuneXP
Then Defragment
Remember to run msconfig and turn off anything but Antivirus and AVG antispyware......
