IE7 locks up occasionally

I did a complete reformat and reinstall of my laptop about a month ago, just for the performance boost, and I've currently got XP home updated as far as it can go. My problem is that Internet Explorer has been locking up occasionally on loading or backing up to a page as much as once an hour for the last couple weeks. This isn't a big deal, I get a 'not responding' message and close it (it closes fine, no time lag), and then I just open it up again and start over; it is, however, kind've a pain in the ass. I don't think it's a spyware issue (haven't had spyware in a year or so, maybe that's one good thing about Chinese web controls), and I'm not running any third party toolbars or anything. The issue occurs at random, with no apparent regard to the particular webpage it locks up on. Any ideas?
