Some old cookers and other appliances had 7 segment LED displays, check your local dump.
You could use a cheap alarm clock/desk clock with an LCD display, they usually have a backlight that you could wire permenantly on, or replace them with nice blue LEDs, cutting the voltage down is no problem at all.
