Slower computer with slave drive installation. Need help!

I have recently installed a slave drive for my computer. But it seems MUCH slower with it. My master drive only has 4GB so thats why I needed some storage space. The slave drive use to be an old master drive. It is an IDE Hard drive (10GB) When I press (F1) at the startup, I see that nothing is assigned to IDE Primary Channel Master and IDE Primary Channel Slave. The 4GB Hard drive is assigned to IDE Secondary Channel Master and 10GB Hard drive is assigned to IDE Secondary Channel Master. After the hardware installation, the CD-ROM was not detected. I was too lazy to open the computer back up again and work on it. Because while I was installing the Slave drive (which took more than 5 hours) The master hard drive got disconnected and you know those IDE Cables where each spoke goes into each hole. The things I read on the internet are too complicated. I just need to find out why are the hard drives assigned that way and why is the computer gotten way slower. Thanks!
