I assume the pic that burned on your harddisk is the motordriver (labeled 'Smooth'). the same happened to my maxtor diamondmax 10 250 GB. I bought a replacement PCB from ebay (40$) that fits my harddisk type. It's working now and i'm recovering my data right in that moment.
I found that thread because after replacing the board and starting up my harddrive, it produced exactly this beep music one time. I think the platters got stuck when the motordriver burned and the 'buzz routine' was used to unstuck them.
