Hows your PSU... not sure what the 9600GT runs or requires, but almost certain the 8800GT is more than the old 7900GS.

Though not sure if the CPU would really be holding you back, doubt it, at least if it is, its not that much....

but for $270 on a newer 9800GTX, you really can't go wrong with that. also $90 on Vista 64-bit Premium either, plus its a full install DVD. If I remember right the OEM stuff your "Supposed" to buy some hardware with it, if that is still the case, just throw on a cheapy expansion card like a USB card Or USB drive/stick or something...
