Wow dude! Glad to hear nothing happened to you or your house! You do have a weather radio with alert? It may not say when, but it will make you jump when the alarm goes off for tornado warnings and what have you.

I have converted a family radio I found camping into a weather radio that plugs in and uses batteries.

You can check this site out too. It has weather feeds. Plus, you can look at PWS's (Personal weather station) So if you see someone's wind speed data go like a son of a b*, chances are there is a tornado..
