Well, in general, the 8800GT is better then the 9600GT, the 9600GT is better then the 3870 with AA turned on, with it off the 3870 and 9600GT are about even, with a slight advantage going to the 3870.
I myself have the EVGA 9600GT that you linked to in your post, and I'm pretty happy with it. The only game I can't max out is Crysis, and in 1280x1024 I can max that out.
My res. is 1680x1050 btw.
Really, if you can catch the 8800gt for the same price, get that. If you find a sweet deal on the 9600GT, get that.
And about the 1gig Palit card, that would be good if you plan on hooking up to a large display, but other then that, I don't really see the point in that much Vram.
