I finally found a solution. I cleared the arp cache - Quote:
Clear the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) cache by typing the following command at a command prompt:
arp -d ip_address
| When I typed the command "arp -a " It informed me that one of the one of the IP addresses -the one I had set as the default gateway- was invalid. Once I ran the command arp -d 192.168.1.254 I had my connectivity back.
I hope this helps anyone who runs across this problem.
