Hi, Charleshx:

The 1.7GHz CPU will not work in an 8300. The 1.7GHz is a 400MHz FSB. You need a CPU with a 533MHz or 800MHz FSB. The Prescott is the best CPU for an 8300 and they are not terribly expensive.
