Some friend...LOL Most power that goes into a lappy doesn't remotely resemble a network port. Shoot your friend

You would have your ISP coming in and then going from some type of modem (DSL, broadband) into the WAN port of your router. Then you hard plug into one of the ports.

Probably not DHCP since your wireless is getting connection....by chance, do you have a static IP address assigned? That could be causing the problem.
