define "normal". hmm have you checked the jumper settings to make sure they are properly set? if they ar on cable select you might try manually configuring them.not really sure if this will help, i've just never heard of anything like this before. also what chipset does your mobo use? sometimes via makes two versions of a chipset, like the kt266 and kt266a and usually the first chipset is buggy. you might try flashing your bios cuase it doesn't sound like a software prob if it does this in 9x and NT.
