Okay, I would suggest you remove one stick of RAM and see how you go, if you're still having failures then try swapping to the other (single) stick. This is to try to rule out one of the sticks of RAM being faulty.
With regards to swapping the HDD from another computer, that wouldn't normally work - especially if it has different hardware... At roughly what point does it BSOD when you're trying to re-install...?
Try going down to one stick of RAM and see if you can BOOT to the XP CD, and let us know how it goes.....
