Recently I ordered a Powercolor HD 3870 X2 for my computer to upgrade to a more decent video card. However, I uninstalled my current driver, and plugged in the new one (yes, I alligned it correctly, yes I plugged the 2 6 pins into the back). Unfortunately, nothing worked, no display popped up on my monitor whatsoever. I feared that my card may be DOA, but at the same time the fans are blaring, and everything seems to be working fine. Now my mobo is a ECS kn3 SLi2. I had a number of questions.
1.) My RAM is DDR2 800, my vid card has GDDR4 RAM and I believe that this will not effect the card from working, however, im uncertain.
2.) IF the card is DOA how come the fans are blaring and whatnot.
3.) Is my power supply sufficient? I have a 700 W psu and the video card says at max it needs i believe 540 W to run, but then again I'm not sure how much the rest of the system takes a toll on power consumption, I'm not new to computers, but I have weak experience in some of their fields such as psu's and whatnot.
4.) I'm about to return this card, and get the same one to try over in case something was just wrong with the card, however, if the problems persists anyone know of anything that may be wrong with my BIOS, I've given it a good check and honestly don't want to touch anything that doesn't need to be touched.
IF anyone can help it'd be appreciated in going nuts i got the card, was so excited then spent the next 4 hours plugging it in over and over frustrated and saddened
it looks like a pimp card too
