nc 6000 problems...LEDs remain on after shutdown

My nc6000 was recently pulled out of storage. I refreshed the OS, and charged the battery overnight. It shows a good charge and about 3-5 hours of remaining battery life. Here's the issue. When I shutdown using XP or if I press the power button to perform shutdown, the unit powers off, but...

1. The hard drive and multibay LEDs remain ON.
2. The unit does a slow drain of the battery.

I thought the battery might require a calibration, so I followed HP instructions to perform this. Well, after several hours of charging, changing power settings, discharging, and finally charging again, the unit still has the two LEDs lit up.

Lord knows I love this little nc6000. In fact I have 2. They are one of the best units I have ever used, barring all of the hokey stuff known to happen to them. Really want to avoid replacing a mobo or other components, but would appreciate any suggestions the forum might have on this one.
