I know Mercedes is using the technology. The urea tank is supposed to last about 10k miles. After something like 20 cranks with no urea available, the ECM will quit cranking the engine. Emergency bottles should be available, but AFAIK, Mercedes is encouraging a dealership (or perhaps authorized center?) servicing to completely refill the tank.
