I can swear like a sailor (or in my case, a soldier) when the need arises, but I don't like hearing someone use it four times in every sentence in normal conversation. It's unnecessary and reflects poorly on the person speaking if they can't form a sentence without it. But students these days use it constantly. It's odd to see some of our students, 20-something males or females, gathering in the hallway after their interviews with corporate recruiters and using the word like a comma.
"I was in this interview and like, the guy askes me a question and I'm like f**k, I don't know and he's sitting there f**king looking at me waiting for an answer and I'm f**king staring out the window and..."
You get the idea. These are future business men and women wearing spiffy suits and expecting a $70k/yr starting salary in some corporation. I can't help but wonder if they accept that kind of language in the corporate world these days. On a construction job site, sure. In a corporate office? I don't know.
