It is a matter of social decorum for me, which again, is a cultural aspect. The traditional Southern culture in the United States tends to value courtesy in public speech and other public mannerisms. Note, I said traditional, which is an important consideration versus the perceived (and often ill founded) stereotypes of Southern culture.
