hi i have just encountered a problem with my computer in that my windows vista will not load,
the spec is as follows
intel pentium 4 3.84 GHZ (overclocked)
2048 mb ddrII 533 ram
samsung 300gb hard drive (IDE)
hitachi 320gb hard drive (SATA)
vista ultimate x86
the problem i have is when i boot up i get the following error message
C:WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe = "Windows cannot access specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access this item"
my operating system was installed on the 300gb IDE HDD i used paragon partition manager in order to completely copy the hard drive to my 320gb SATA HDD so as that i could put the 300gb in another machine,
now the copy was a success so i decided i would format the 300 gb hard drive but during the copy my assigned drive letters where swapped and i formatted the 320gb by mistake which i did not see as a problem as i had everything still on the 300gb HDD, however when i tried to boot again i came across a screen stating that winloader was missing or corrupt and that i should repair my windows installation using my install disc,
when i ran the repair console from my disc it found some problems with the startup and repaired them so i no longer got the "winloader missing" message and all seemed well untill i got to the vista welcome screen where it had "preparing your desktop" for ages (at least 7 mins) which is slow even for a fresh install of vista,
after the welcome screen went all i got was a light blue screen with the error message as posted above.
i left it for a while (30 mins) after clicking "ok" to see if the desktop would load but alas to no avail
does anybody have any ideas what i can do to sort this out bearing in mind that i cannot access anything from my desktop, all i can do is open task manager
i have tried using system restore to get back to a restore point without success
i have done a fresh install of vista on my other HDD so i can still access my files on the 300gb HDD so if there is anything i could do before i set about the arduous task of transfering all 200gb of data and apps
thanks in advance
