Wireless can't see wired on LAN

The setup I have is an 8 port gigabit unmanaged switch with 6 wired connections on it, and one cable uplinking the switch to a netopia modem which is a router and DSL modem in one.

The netopia will accept both wired and wireless connections, the unmanaged switch only accepts wired connections.

So here's the problem; wireless devices can only see wired systems in their workgroup if they are plugged into the netopia, and not the gigabit switch (and vice versa).

A wired connection will see all other wired connections, regardless of whether they're on the switch or the netopia. No problem. A wired connection on the netopia can see a wireless connection on the netopia. No problem. But again, a wired connection on the switch cannot see a wireless connection on the netopia. Any ideas?
