I stopped by best buy and talked to the geek squad. You guys were right -they honor the manufacturer's warranty apparently (in this case 1 year).

I explained the problem to them and they said they can certainly take a look at no cost. So, I'll bring mine in sometime soon and have them look at it. If they can't fix it in the store, they'll send it out to Sony. I didn't drop mine off tonight because they said they were backed up so I'll drop it off at a later date.

Really seems like a hanging wire, so hopefully not every single replacement fan has this problem. Thanks!
